  1. I like Stephen Kings writing, he’s intense and always has a very intriguing hook. I’ve read Cujo and watched many movies based off of some of his books. I do enjoy and appreciate this style of writing, he truly knows how to keep readers interested. I don’t know much about him besides what we’ve talked about in class.

I found the story to be okay. It wasn’t as interesting as some of his other books, though it was decent. It just wasn’t as graphic nor relatable. King starts off by stating, “I am now a very old man and this is something which happened to me when I was very young—only nine years old.” To me I feel like he’s giving too much information right away. When he usually keeps the readers just as in the dark as the victims he writes about.

  2. I like Stephen King, I haven't read other books by him but i have seen the movie IT and 1922 by him. I enjoy this type of writing because it feels real and draws me into the story. I liked The Man in the Black Suit because the story is a slower read to understand what he is saying. I would read other books by him.

    5. Here is my textual evidence: "Mostly, though, the difference was in how people lived how
apart they were. I’m not sure people born after the middle of the twentieth century could quite credit that, although they might say they could, to be polite to old folks like me. There were no phones in western Maine back then, for one thing. The first one wouldn’t be installed for another five years, and by the time there was one in our house, I was nineteen and going to college at the University of Maine in Orono."
This is why I like the book because it is very simple to read.

  3. My first impression of Stephen King is he is creepy. The dude comes up with the most random, twisted, harmful things to put on paper. I have read a decent amount of his books but I have seen plenty of the movies. I enjoy the type of writing but I honestly don't like his. I love Edgar Allen Poe's but they're different flows and styles. I feel like King rose to author power substantially fast and I feel wonderful for him.

I really did not enjoy the man in the black suit. Don't want to hurt any feelings here but just not my style. He prolongs it at parts, saying, "I've never told anyone about what happened in the fork of the stream that day." As I said in the first response, I have read other pieces by him including Cujo.

    1. I agree that Stephen King seems really creepy and his stories are so gruesome and random. Do you think his alcohol and drug problem caused him to write his stories like this? We already know that Cujo was written due to his cocaine problem and he does not remember writing it but do you think most of his stories were written because of these issues or just because of his imagination or was it a bit of both?

      Delete
    2. I agree with you, but its like judging a book by its cover, you can see he weird and stuff and then you watch one of his films or read one of his books, you are then amazed.

    3. I understand that Stephen King is not the type of horror writer you do not enjoy, however, does anything from Stephen King's book stand out to you the most as the story is read further?

    4. I get why you might not like Stephen King, The Man in the Black Suit made me really uncomfortable. The part where the devil guy crouched down and sniffed the boys crotch was way over line. I almost stopped reading after that.

  4. I really like how Stephen King can get into a mindset that really nobody else can replicate, he makes his writing in a way that is all around intriguing. I've seen almost all of his old bangers; such as It, Pet Semetary, and those are my favorites. Honestly, I liked The Man In The Black Suit, this story interested me and kept me hooked. The part when the boy was getting chased and turned to see the man right behind him had me on edge. When he says, "and I looked back just as I got to the top. He was coming after me, the back of his suit-coat flapping and his thin gold watch-chain flashing and winking in the sun. ", I could just picture it vividly in my mind. The thought of it brought goosebumps to my skin, but not out of fear, but for the intensity of the situation.

I agree that King made The Man in the Black Suit a very suspenseful and intense story and it makes it fun to read and it hooks you into reading more because you had to figure out what was going to happen. I enjoy watching movies of his books as well because its fun to see a visual to his stories and it really makes his stories come to life.

    3. Yeah some of his writing will give you goosebumps. I think his writing is really detailed and it almost hooks you immediately, until the end of the book. What are your thoughts on his movies? Have you read the Shining? Or watched it?

  5. I enjoy reading Stephen Kings books and enjoy watching his movies. I enjoy the way he writes and he always makes his stories interesting. I have only read misery and the mist by him but I have seen a ton of his movies.
I enjoyed The Man in the Black Suit I thought it was a good story and I like that King made his narrator unsure about if the event actually happened or not. At first he knows it’s real but slowly believes he was dreaming and then he believes it happened again. This inconsistency helps to improve the story and make the reader wonder if the event did happen to him or if he was dreaming. It's easy to see how easily Gary’s thoughts were changed when he talked to his dad. His father says to Gary, “Maybe you fell asleep while you were fishing, son, and had a bad dream. Like the ones you had about Danny last winter.” This shows that it was easy for his father to dismiss the event as a dream and it even makes Gary doubt if it actually happened or not.

  6. My first impression of Stephen King is that he has a dark side to him. I do enjoy his writing style, It always keeps me hooked and wanting to read more. his work does have a dark side to it but i feel like that's what makes the reader wan to read more, This was the first time i've ever seen any of his work And i'd definitely read more if I had the chance.
As far as The Man in The Black Suit, i found it very mysterious and eventful. As soon as I thought I knew what was going to happen next a twist was thrown in to keep the reader on their feet. One of my favorite parts of the text was when the author was describing his first sight of the man in the black suit, It brought me into the picture with the description. The story author wrote, " His face was slack and avid as a corpse that died hungry. His eyes blazed, i could his sharp teeth through his pale lips." That example shows the detail that King puts into his story's, that's one of the reason I enjoy reading his work.

  7. My impression of Stephen King is that he is a very experienced writer, and seems to know what captivates interest in his writings. This is not the first time I’ve heard of him, but I’ve never seen his movies or read any of his other writings. I enjoy his work so far.

I thought the story was pretty interesting overall, as it was fun to read. I enjoyed how you could really tell the kid was scared when he was running away. I would like to read something else written by him, as if it’s similar to what this was about, then it might be interesting. “He reached for me, groping with his talons, and I fled along the top of the bank. After a hundred yards or so I found my voice and went to screaming—screaming in fear, of course, but also screaming in grief for my beautiful dead mother. “

  8. My impressions of Stephen King are not so good, he does drugs/was an addict and seems very creepy. I have no read anything else by him however, I have seen some movies influenced by him. I enjoy the story of the Man in the black suit, he seems like he is efficient at his job and likes what he does.
I like the story The Man in the Black Suit, It is very interesting and makes you follow closely for what will occur next. I like how it created two sides the reader could take, either you believe Gary like his father, ”I wasn’t exactly surprised to see drops of sweat standing out on his forehead like big clear jewels.“Come on, ”he said.“Let’s get the hell out of here.” Or you can think that it was all a dream or fake. I’m not sure if I would like his other pieces.

  9. I thought stephen king was interesting because he had a different life then most people. I have seen a lot of his movies and read a few of his book. His writing is different then other writing i have read but it is pretty good.
The man in the black suit was a pretty good story it was different and interesting at the same time. I enjoyed the descriptions he used about the devil “His face was very long and pale. His black hair was combed tight against his skull and parted with rigorous care on the left side of his narrow head. He was very tall. He was wearing a black three-piece suit, and I knew right away that he was not a human being, because his eyes were the orangey-red of flames in a woodstove. I don’t just mean the irises, because he had no irises, and no pupils, and certainly no whites. His eyes were completely orange—an orange that shifted and flickered.”

  10. He always has good story's I like the way he writes he always make things seem the worst possible way. Yes I have read other books by Steven king and they are all good.
The man in the black suit is a really good story I like it because he makes the story intense
I would like to read the gunslinger because you hear a lot of good things about it.
    “Your mother is dead.”
“I’m afraid not, ” he said. “It was the same thing that happened to your brother, Gary. It was a bee.”

  11. My impression of Stephen king is that he is a fantastic writer but his stories are unusual. Even though his stories are a bit different they still intriguing. I have seen a lot of his movies and yes I do enjoy his writing. I have no comment about his life in general.

I think the men in the black suit is again an unusual story but nonetheless a good one. I enjoyed the description of the man in the black suit and the descriptions for his action like “ He pursed his lips as if to whistle and blew at me gently. It was only a little breath, but the stench was foul beyond belief—clogged sewers, outhouses that have never known a single sprinkle of lime, dead chickens after a flood. “

  13. I really like Stephen King, and I enjoy his books. I think one of my favorite book would have to be The Mist. I also really enjoy his creepy writing style and how descriptive he is.

The Man in the Black Suit was okay, it's not my favorite piece, but it's not all that bad. I think my least favorite thing King does in his stories is over describe “I am now a very old man and this is something which happened to me when I was very young—only nine years old.” what I do enjoy is when he gets descriptive about the more creepy, and scary parts of his stories “He reached for me, groping with his talons, and I fled along the top of the bank. 14. Personally I'm a pretty big fan of Stephen king. He has plenty of great books and movies out there that I definitely enjoy. For example, IT by Stephen king I think is a great book and movie (the original). The movie does a fantastic job of capturing ones fear of death, the unknown and of course a clown. It takes the fear of each kid in the movie and almost makes them face those fears. I do enjoy this type of writing very much so because I fascinate over horror/thriller type books or movies all around.

I did enjoy this short story by him. However I would've liked it to be longer or made into a longer story. I think I would've liked to know more about the man in the black suit. Was he real? Where did he come from? Did Gary's dad actually know about him and is that why he warned Gary not to go past where the woods split? Had his father even had an encounter with the man in the black suit? This was another good example of how Stephen King captures one's fear in a story and that is one thing I did enjoy.

    1. I agree that it should have been longer, so we could see how it effects him in his later life.

    2. I feel that there are major plot holes in "The Man In the Black Suit" just as you said, since it is unknown if Gary's father believed that the devil was in the area Gary was fishing at, and thinking of whether the warning to not go into the woods is a reminder to not go near the Devil.

I think that Stephen king is sort of interesting I enjoy the movies because they make more sense to me but the books are a completely different thing because there are some details in the book that the movies leave out. The only thing that I really know about Stephen king is what we learned in class

I found the story interesting but, I have enjoyed other books more and I normally do not like to read books. He explains his stories well and puts a lot of details and makes his story come to life, especially The Man in the Black Suit he put plenty of details in it about describing what is happening. Over all I do not mind reading Stephen King.

I really liked The Man In The Black Suit because it was definitely different from the other stories we’ve read in class. It kept me in suspense and was really good at describing the characters making a full creepy picture in my head. Something I didn't really like was that its kinda similar to when the clown would just stand there and smiley in a creepy way. But reading The Man in the Black Suit was kind of interesting. This is giving me different idea of Stephen King’s work. I don’t see now just him as some guy you writes scary stories because there not really scary just kind of creepy.

I really enjoyed reading the Man in the Black Suit. I thought it was creepy, but at the same time I didn’t want to stop reading. Something that I found to be creepy is on page 58 when the Devil says, ‘“I’m starving,’ he said abruptly. ‘I’m going to kill you and tear you open and eat your guts, little fisher boy.”’ This I thought was creepy because he was saying he was going to eat Grey. Not going to lie eating people is weird. At the same time though I had to keep reading to know if he was going to eat him, or not.

  19. When we first started learning about Stephen King I thought he was alright. I have not read anything by him or watch a movie, but I have seen some movie trailers like IT and Pet Sematary. His style of writing is something I would not read because I do not like to horror stories i’m more on the mystery and action side. I would like to know when he decided to write horror stories and how he know it was something he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

I thought that The Man in the Black Suit is a good story, but again it’s just not something I would read. I enjoyed reading the part where he meets up with his dad and they go back to the spot to get his fishing, but the kid tells his dad what happens and he did not believe him at first then he starts believing him by throwing his son’s creel or the bridge into the river. “My father took my creel took my creel, look into it, then went to the railing and threw it over.” It was something different to read, but if i’m being honest I would not read any of his other books.

I thought the story of “The Man in the Black Suit” had a very good mystery and kept that through the whole text. I enjoyed the ending because it gave the idea that something similar has happened to Gary's dad like it did him.

If she doesn’t ask, we won’t tell her anything.” This shows that for whatever reason we aren't sure Gary's dad knows something about the devil or at least believes what Gary is saying because he is trying to hide what happened and move on with life out of the awkward way he is acting.

Although I find it rather weird on how he comes up with all these random horrific stories out of the blue and these are all his thoughts, I still love his work. My favorite piece of his work is the famous IT.

I really did like the story of “The Man in the Black Suit” and it is very suspenseful which is exactly what I like. I would definitely read more pieces by King. I really like the aspect of the story that king makes it seem like it all couldn't have even happen when the boy's father said, “Maybe you fell asleep while you were fishing, son, and had a bad dream. 24. I think Stephen King is a good writer he takes fear to a different view then I’ve read in the past. I haven’t really read anything by him but I have watched his movies I watched pet sematary, It, and a little bit of Cujo I thought those were really good movies. I like his type of writing because it keeps the reader interested and scared while reading some of his stories. It shocked me when I heard that he didn’t remember much about writing Cujo because of his drinking issue.

My thoughts on The man In The Black Suit scared me it was really unsettling to me but this man fed on Gary’s fear it seemed like and what I enjoyed about it is how Gary explained the story and how it left the reader wanting more out of what happened to him when he was nine. I would read IT if I had to because I got somewhat of a vibe from The Man In The Black by him saying, ““I’m starving,” he said abruptly. “I’m going to kill you and tear you open and eat your guts, little fisher boy. What do you think about.” YES this line is a little morbid but it gave me chills not something I was expecting to hear and I got an IT vibe from the man saying this.

  25. My first impression of Stephen King was that he had a creepy and dark side to him. I liked his style of writing, however he’s stories didn’t really interested me and isn’t something I would read in my free time and I don’t see myself reading his work in the future. I have never read or seen anything else by him, it’s just not my cup of tea.
The Man in the Black Suit is very different from most stories. I liked how the story was suspenseful and build itself up. I also enjoyed how detailed parts of the story was, for example, “His face was very long and pale. His black hair was combed tight against his skull and parted with rigorous care on the left side of his narrow head” This made it easy to created a picture in my mind of how the man looked.

  26. Impressions that I have about Stephen King is taking the fear factor from the traditional novel standards of thrillers, to stories that are personal, and that create a new type of thriller with a mix of tradition. When I started reading "Cujo," it did not just focus on the mind of a dog fading away from rabies, it also focused on a mix of different characters, from the most major to the most minor of characters, and how their personalities acted towards the major events of the story. When this type of writing comes up in his work, it can feel a little clunky and confusing, however, feels as if the writing gives the story a chance to give out how reality acts in the real world, and having the human mind being prepared, and except fear as being a tactic to face real danger.

To be honest, I did not enjoy "The Man In The Black Suit" as much as I thought I would, as the beginning of the story was a little slow, however, I started to feel a sense of dread coming in as the middle of the story began. One scene in the middle of the story that stood out to me the most is where the devil threatened to eat Gary, and swallowed a fish whole. Ex: "He reached for me again with his long, pale hands, and without thinking what I was doing, I flipped open the top of my creel, pawed all the way down to the bottom, and brought out the mon-
ster brookie I’d caught earlier—the one I should have been satisfied with....“Big fish!” the man in the black suit cried in a guttural, greedy voice. “Oh, biiig fiiish!! He snatched it away from me and crammed it into a mouth that opened wider than any human mouth ever could" (King, 58).

  27. I like Stephen King because of the fact that he separated his mindset and thinking away from everyone elses, which causes his random thoughts and hurtful things to stick out more. I've seen only one of his movies It, and It shows the kind of weirded mind he has like for example how weird and creepy the clown is. I enjoyed how heart racing and action packed the man in the black suit was especially when he described the man in the black suit when he first saw him “His face was slack and avid as a corpse that died hungry. His eyes blazed, I could his sharp teeth through his pale lips.” That description of him gives me chills and I can only imagine looking at him with my own eyes. That would pretty terrifying.

    1. yeah he does have a strong action sense, although I.T. is a questionable movie. you're entitled to like it, but it was just a dumb concept to me. clowns aren't scary to me, and the book and movie were way too long to get the point across

    4. I agree with what you said. I think the way Stephen King describes the man in the black suit when Gary first sees him only adds the the fear in the story. 28. I enjoy, and have enjoyed Stephens works. However, some of the things he writes about in some books like I.T. and the shining have completely disinterested me. So hes really hit or miss for me. i would like to read more works from him, especially now that i know he took drugs for a few of them. it makes me interested to see inside of the mind of insanity.

The man in the black suit is by far my favorite title. the atmosphere of the devil and the early 1900's really got me hooked, and the kids reaction was pretty understandable too. 'My bladder let go, and the scuffed brown the dead bee was lying on went a darker brown. I was hardly aware of what had happened, and I couldn’t take my eyes off the man standing on top of the bank and looking down at me, the man who had walked out of thirty miles of trackless western Maine woods in a fine black suit and narrow shoes of gleaming leather.' like i stated in my previous paragraph, id love to read more about him

  29. I enjoy reading Stephen Kings books and stories,he always has intense storylines and always has a very unique way in enticing the audience. I really enjoyed man in the black suit and watched some of the movies based off of his books. I appreciate his writing because he has found a way to attract me and many others. Over the past couple classes, I learned a lot about him and have come to understand him as a person.

I found the story to be very mysterious. I would consider it to be one of his more interesting writings. Although I would say it wasn’t as graphic nor relatable. King starts off by stating, “I am now a very old man and this is something which happened to me when I was very young—only nine years old.” To me I feel as if he’s giving away the whole story, when he normally makes the beginning of the story mysterious with some kind of build up.

I haven't read any books by him but i have seen the movie IT and it was very good. I enjoy his writing and movies, they are usually very interesting or very scary and i like to be scared so I enjoy his work.

I found The Man In The Black Suit to be kinda boring and I don't think I would read anything else by him unless I had too. “I am now a very old man and this is something which happened to me when I was very young—only nine years old.” Usually stories and younger kids don't interest me as much as stories about adults or young adults.

  31. I have never read any of Stephen King's books or seen any of his movies, but based on The Man In The Black Suit, I enjoyed his writing.

The Man In The Black Suit was suspenseful and very interesting. I liked that from the beginning, it was building up to the part were the "devil" showed up. I found this part of the story kinda creepy "His eyes were the orangey-red of flames in a woodstove. I don’t just mean the irises, because he had no irises, and no pupils, and certainly no whites. His eyes were completely orange—an orange that shifted and flickered. And it’s really too late not to say exactly what I mean, isn’t it? He was on fire inside, and his eyes were like the lit-tle isinglass portholes you sometimes see in stove doors."

  32. My impressions of Stephen king is that he's a great writer and creates a really good and intense scary atmosphere in his horror books. The only complaint that I have about his writing is that he adds weird and unnecessary parts in his books that don't really add anything to the story. The only other book that I've read by him was The Shining, which I thought was really good. I've also seen a lot of his movies, The Shining and the 2017 version of It are some of my favorite movies of all time. I don't have any general comments but I would like to read/watch some of his other work.

I really enjoyed The man in the Black Suit, it was a great short story it started out slow and got really intense during the chase scene. I like how descriptive Stephen King is it adds a lot of depth and detail to the story. “He sat up suddenly, the smell of burnt matches fluffing out from his suit and making me feel all gaggy in my throat. He looked at me solemnly from his narrow white face and burning eyes, but there was a sense of laughter about him, too. There was always that sense of laughter about him”. This quote really highlights the little bits of detail he puts into his writing.

  33. Stephen King makes some really interesting stories, but sometimes I feel like it can get a little weird. Before this class, all I have seen was his movies, I've never read any of his books. His writing is easy to follow, and he writes in a certain way that just hooks the readers right in. It isn't like the other shot stories that we have read.

The Man in the Black Suit was pretty good, but again it was kind of weird. Weirdness isn't bad, I guess it could add into the creepiness factor, but one thing was just over the line. "turned yellow and died. He lowered his head toward my pants and

sniffed. His glaring eyes half-closed, as if he had inhaled some sub-
lime aroma and wanted to concentrate on nothing but that.

'Oh, bad!” he cried. “Lovely-bad!” And then he chanted: “Opal!
Diamond! Sapphire! Jade! I smell Gary’s lemonade!'"
This line made me feel very uncomfortable, but maybe that was the point. Overall, I do like his books and I would read more of them.

  34. After reading The Man in Black, I think that Stephan King is an intelligent writer who specializes on creepy and unsettling atmospheres. I like that he creates an atmosphere that makes me genuinely check my surroundings. I've read bits from his other books, but I've never actually read a whole Stephan King novel. I have watched IT, which was a great film.

The Man in Black was a great story, however I don't think it was as good as the other stories we read this unit. The Man in Black was the only story to creep me out, but it did not have a very interesting reveal. One example of the mans creepiness is: “He reached for me, groping with his talons, and I fled along the top of the bank. After a hundred yards or so I found my voice and went to screaming—screaming in fear, of course, but also screaming in grief for my beautiful dead mother." I think this story would have been better if the man had some sort of reason to chase kids around.

  35. My impressions of stephen king is his writing styles make the story easy to imagine. The amount of literary devices he uses makes it easy to understand while interesting to read. When comparing his works in total I mainly enjoy his writings because while some authors make their stories that somewhat keep my attention, King has ways to make the image in my head vivid and clear while I enjoy the story. Stephen King as a person seems like an average dude to me. In interviews with him he often says that he never had a traumatic experience in his life to cause him to write such bizarre works.

I really enjoyed the Man in the Black Suit because of its different concept of fear and unexpected events. One thing that has stuck with me after reading the story was when King wrote, “ because his eyes were the orangey-red of flames in a woodstove. I don’t just mean the irises, because he had no irises, and no pupils, and certainly no whites. His eyes were completely orange—an orange that shifted and flickered.” When Gary describes the man I get a crystal clear image in my head and it makes me feel like I’m there with Gary looking up to the man. This story made me want to look into more stories made by Stephen King.

  36. (My computer at home would not let me post) I’ve read pieces from Stephen King before - not to mention my mom has a moderate collection of his books. I haven’t seen the movies branching from his stories, but I have seen previews and advertisements for the new ones like the remade “IT” and “The Pet Sematary”....and memes. Many memes. I don’t really want to watch the movies, though, since I think most books are better than the cinematic adaptations - not for the story at least, I love me some awesome costumes and atmosphere building - the movies just don’t really hold all of the details that a book has. Despite not really wanting to see the movies, I do enjoy King’s work. It’s always interesting to see how the scenes play out - how he describes characters, describes locations, and mostly how he manipulates stories is a style I thoroughly enjoy. On another note, his home life didn’t seem easy before he had gotten the spotlight on his work. I’m glad he’s donating what he can and has a more comfortable lifestyle despite the injuries he sustained in the car accident.

The Man in the Black Suit just happened to reach the top of my favorite stories because of this assignment. I love this one - mostly because of the portrayal of the Devil himself. It was honestly almost childish, yet it didn’t take away to just how powerful he certainly was, which is what a lot of portrayals lack for me. A lot of writers can’t really balance that, and in my opinion King did a fantastic job describing someone that can hold that big of a name in the modern world. Another part he struck well was the scenery. It’s usually something you don’t really think about, but the world-building in here was very well done - even if Gary never visited Corson’s General Store mentioned on page 46 in the events the story focuses on, the description of the surroundings Gary lived in really let you fill the narrator’s shoes. These aren’t the only reasons I like this piece in particular, but I am and will definitely continue reading King’s works.

  37. I enjoyed reading Stephen King book because he basically has a different life than others in the world. I haven't read any of his book but I’ve seen one movie from him.
I really liked The Man In The Black Suit because there’s some pieces that were really weird but scary at the same time. Also this quote basically explains that he wants to eat a human being that is live which is very weird and gross. One piece of evidence to backup my thought is where he says “I’m starving,’ he said abruptly. ‘I’m going to kill you and tear you open and eat your guts, little fisher boy.” I really enjoyed this quote because it makes the story very interesting and it grabs the reader's attention when he describes it in a weird way and he doesn’t just say something simple.

  38. What I enjoy reading was Stephen Kings books and I enjoyed watching his movies. I like the way he writes his stories and how his movies are made and how they can be accurate to the book. I have only read misery, It,and the mist by him but I have seen a ton of his movies.

I enjoyed reading the story of The Man in the Black Suit. I thought it was a good story and I like that King made his narrator unsure about if the event actually happened or not and how all those events happened in his head or not. He never really said if it was real or not either. At first he thinks it is real but then slowly believes he was dreaming and then he believes it happened all over again. This inconsistency helps to improve the story and make the reader wonder if the event did actually happen to him when he was a kid or if he was just dreaming. It's easy to see how easily Gary’s thoughts were changed when he talked to his dad about the devil or better known as the man in the black suit. His father says to Gary, “Maybe you fell asleep while you were fishing, son, and had a bad dream. Like the ones you had about Danny last winter.” This shows that it was easy for his father to dismiss the event as a dream and it even makes Gary doubt if the incident actually happened or not.

I enjoyed reading The Man In The Black Suit. It wasn't the best story I have ever read but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed when the man in the black suit said "Why, its a fisherboy!", the kid just lays there and says "Hello sir" like if that was me and I was that young, I would have been running! It was my first time reading something by Stephen King, and overall I think that he is a creative author that is really descriptive with his writing, I really enjoyed reading the text because it was entertaining and he really knows how to engage a reader. I think he is very talented. Also, I have not yet seen any of his movies but I would love to see one someday.

Personally, I really enjoyed reading this story because of how well written it was. He used very descriptive words throughout the whole story. It was a really interesting and entertaining story I didn't get bored while reading this story like I normally do when reading other books/stories. A piece of the text that I found really descriptive was when he saw the bee when he woke up. "At the moment it came, the bee tumbled off my nose and fell into my lap. It lay there on my pants with its legs sticking up and its stinger a threatless black thread against the old scuffed brown of the corduroy." (Pg 63) this type of writing really helps the reader stay entertained and makes you want to keep reading more.

I really liked reading "The Man in the Black Suit" because he was really descriptive about how the man in the black suit looked which helped me visualize how he looked. "From the corner of one eye I could see a hand as pale as the hand of a store window dummy. The fingers were hideously long.” “...I saw that each of those long fingers ended in what was not a fingernail but a long yellow claw" (54). These sentences make it really easy for me to visualize and understand why Gary was so afraid of him.

I enjoyed “The Man in the Black Suit” I thought that it was a good story and it was well written. I really like how you could tell right away that the kid was scared and I can easily picture myself in the shoes of the kid, and being scared as well. I like how he meets up with his dad and they go back to the spot to get his fishing, but the kid tells his dad what happens and he did not believe him at first then he starts believing him by throwing his son’s creel or the bridge into the river. “My father took my creel took my creel, look into it, then went to the railing and threw it over.” It was something different to read, but I would be very intrigued to read another one of his book's.

I thought the Man in the Black Suit was pretty interesting, I think it got pretty intense during Gary’s escape from the man and I thought it was written quite well. “Halfway to the top I slipped to my knees, looked over my shoulder, and saw the man in the black suit almost at my heels, his white face pulled into a convulsion of fury and greed”. I thought this quote demonstrates the sort of intense feeling present, along with a decent build up. The description of the man is something out of my nightmares and how he’s described in that moment, I imagined what it would be like if it were real. That’s what I enjoyed about the book, it actually got me to imagine an intense scenario like that.

The story The Man in the Black Suit is very well thought and very intense. Part I really enjoyed the part where the boy encountered the “devil” and had to talk to him and sort of other things. I believed that was intense, because if I ever had to encounter something like that I would freak out and sort of things. This is the piece of textual evidence i’m talking about, “The fingers were hideously long. He hunkered beside me on his hams, his knees popping just as the knees of any normal man might, but when he moved his hands so they dangled between his knees, I saw that each of those long fingers ended in what was not a fingernail but a long yellow claw. “You didn’t answer my question, fisherboy, ” he said in his mellow voice”.

  45. My impressions of Stephen King are pretty much that basics, all I really knew what that he writes horror stories. I have never read anything by him until this year, and honestly his short stories are pretty good and interesting, but I don't think I could sit down and read one of the books that he wrote. They just seem so long, and I wouldn't stay attracted to them. I feel like I have seem some of the movies that are about the books he has written, but at that time I just didn't notice or didn’t care about how it originated it was just a movie to me. The work that he has put out and what we have read in class I would say I enjoy this type of writing to an extent. Only due to the vocabulary that he uses in some of his stories makes things hard to understand. I believe that he has written good books, but they are just not what I would enjoy.

My thoughts on the story, The Man in the Black Suit was that I very much like the middle of the story were all the action is happening all at once. It was very suspenseful to see what would happen and what the man in the black suit would do to Gary. The one thing that I dislike was the ending, due to it being to anticlimactic, and that I thought there was going to be more to the story and there wasn't. The author describes the man as; “His face was very long and pale. His black hair was combed tight against his skull and parted with rigorous care on the left side of his narrow head. He was very tall. He was wearing a black three-piece suit, and I knew right away that he was not a human being, because his eyes were the orangey-red of flames in a woodstove. I don’t just mean the irises, because he had no irises, and no pupils, and certainly no whites.” It makes me think of Slender Man by the description.

I loved the story but didn't understand a few parts because of wording.”A better question is whether or not anyone will believe them. Almost certainly not, but that doesn’t matter. It’s not belief I’m interested in but freedom.”(King) I enjoyed how its an older man looking back on something in his life and writing about it and not caring if anyone believes it. I liked reading this book just because it was very creepy and kinda had a lot of imagery and realism to it besides the antagonist in the story. The part I enjoyed in the story was the weird conversation the Man in Black has with Gary through the story. And the chase was pretty cool. And by far the part that had me going No No No. was the when he comes back to the river again with his dad fishing and he hears the nursery rhyme or poem that was being sang earlier by the man. “ Opal! 49. Something I can see in Stephen King’s writing after learning somewhat about him is that he takes some messed up experiences he had to face in his life and incorporates them into his work. I feel that buy doing this he is able to find a kind of solace in it. For example, in his book, “The Body” the kids in the book have to cross a train track that crosses over the ravine below to get to the river where the body they are looking for is at, while crossing the train tracks a train starts to head down the tracks leaving them no time to run across, only dive over the bridge. Even though none of the boys were hurt the premise and inspiration of this specific scene in the book came from Stephen witnessing his friend being hit by a train even though he does not remember the incident. I very much enjoy Stephen King’s work and how he incorporates it. I have watched two of his movies, read one of his book and currently reading another. The way that he incorporates fear is inspiring and well done.
In my opinion, “The Man in the Black Suit” was a really good read, the descriptive details were unique and explicit and I enjoyed them very much. I found the man in the black suit to be a very interesting character. I also found it quite amusing how King had described the fish hanging out of his mouth as he had been chasing Gary, imagining a scary figure running with half a fish hanging out of his mouth is hysterical. Another thing I liked about this character was his personality, he seemed more silly than evil, of course he’s still evil but in a funny way.

  50. My first impressions of Stephen King are that he is a very interesting person. He comes up with this wired, creepy books that so many people enjoy and then become movies. I like most of his work and enjoy reading his books. His movies are good as will but not better than his books and his imagination is out of this world. How he describes thing make the reader keep reading and puts the reader in the story.
I enjoyed the story of The man in the black suit. I thought how he describes the man in the black suit was creative and how he use the bee to bring fear to the mean character. The only thing that I didn’t like was that his brother died by bee. I liked how he keeped the reader into the book by keeping them in suspense if the the main character was going to die.

    1. I kind of found it weird how the brother died from a bee sting, however I feel like that could happen in the real world, and it supports the story overall, with the bee flying onto the protagonist's nose, and how the Man in the Black Suit was conversing about his mother dying from a bee sting.

  51. My initial impressions of Stephen King is that his writings reflect and show us a side of fear that most wouldn't know or acknowledge, and it can almost connect with the reader on real life fears or experiences they have faced, and it builds a connection between the two. It's almost as if he incorporates his own fears or life situations into the book, and gives it a twist that puts most readers or viewers on the edge of their toes. Before this, I have never read any of Stephen King's books, however I might pick up a couple now soon. Overall, I feel like everyone has at least seen one of his movies, and if not you're probably living under a rock. With the Man in the Black Suit, I feel like a lot of people have that fear, of someone or something watching them when their off on there own in the wilderness, be it human or not, just waiting to take there next victim, which could be you. However, Stephen King gave us an outlook on that exact situation, and put suspense into it to keep the reader interested, and it could even help the reader overcome a fear of theirs.

  52. I did like the story it really got my attention. He did a good job on the part when the kid was being chased and he turned around and he was right behind him. “I looked back just as I got to the top. He was coming after me, the back of his suit-coat flapping and his thin gold watch-chain flashing and winking in the sun." during this part i was able to imagine what was happening. I think he is a good author and i would read another story by him.

  53. I've read and seen both movies of It. I enjoy Kings style of writing as he can place the pacing almost perfectly. I’ve just wondered what his life must have been like and what he had endured for him to write such tragic, twisted and gruesome stories.

The Man In The Black Suit was a very enjoyable read. From the authors description of the Devil, to the gruesome imagery of how he’s going to be eaten on page 58 “I’m starving,’ he said abruptly. ‘I’m going to kill you and tear you open and eat your guts, little fisher boy.” This was unsettling to me because the devil was seen by a human in this story which would be considered cannibalism
