  2. Summary of my book: The book starts in London in the year 1898, Albert Garrick is training a young boy named Riley to become an assassin. When Riley does not want to kill this old man, Garrick pushes Riley’s hand with the knife to the heart of the old man. The book fast forwards to London, in the year 2015 Chevron Savano was an FBI agent in training, but when one of her missions goes south when she is in California, she is moved to London For 5 years. She is told by Agent Orange, that she is to watch a pod but he does not tell her what the pod does. A couple of hours later, the pod opens and the boy, Riley comes out the pod with the old man. Agent Orange tells her that it’s a time machine. Agent Orange tells Agent Savano that the old man is actually his dad. His dad went back in time to hide some things from the government. They think that Riley killed Agent Orange’s dad. When Riley tells them that It was Garrick and that he is coming to take Riley, they don’t believe him. Orange takes a team of experts into the machine to go back in time to find the things that his father hid.
Authors craft: Agent Savano Arrives at WARP. Agent Orange gives her a mini tour and he tells her what her job is. This advances the plot in the story because he introduces the the time machine where Riley and Agent Orange’s dad come out from. He creates a major plot event because this is when Riley and Agent Orange's dad come out of the pod.
“What do we actually do here, she asked her boss.” We attend the pod, said the fifty-year-old agent. On most days a man probably won’t come out of the pod, but on the off chance that this very special man does emerge from that hatch when I am out, you need to keep him alive. Just keep him alive and call me.” “Is the man in their now?” No agent, the pod is empty and has been for 30 years.” “So it’s a magic pod?” “Not magic exactly, magical maybe.”

  3. Characters Response:
Steve Quinn is interesting because he keeps to himself a lot but he makes some good points when the adults are talking. He is very likeable but an underdog because he is very smart but he gets told what to do almost all the time.
    Author’s Craft Response:
In chapter 4, the author made the chapter very tense because Steve and his dad are in a downed airplane and it is storming at night. Then slavers came with a woman and young boy, Steve’s dad wanted to save them, they tried and failed with Steve’s dad ending up in a coma from falling over the gorge.

  4. Summary Response:
The main character had been shopping at a store for some candy but had ran into a mysterious man in which they exchanged a few words and then parted their ways but the main character is a photographer and found the man interesting in which she then followed him and proceeded to take pictures of the man.
    Characters Response:
As of right now the most interesting character is Julian. Why he is the most interesting to me right now is because when you read the book, in the beginning he's more on the mysterious side of characters and once in awhile you get to see how he thinks and what he does through a small diary he writes in the chapters. I think Julian catches the eye the most to people is because of how mysterious he is and what the author had put into his backstory.

    1. The summary of your book is interesting. The book you are reading I think Is similar to mine because my book is also mysterious in a way.

    2. How did the author make his backstory? What is it about his backstory makes you think he's the most interesting? Why do you think the photographer found the man so interesting that she felt the need to follow him?

      Delete
    3. What is the main story line in your book? Do you think the photographer is following the main character for a certain reason?

      Delete
    4. The author has created his backstory in a very interesting way. When they first introduced the character they didn't really tell his backstory but as the book progressed they began to introduce what had happened back a couple months before and why he is on the run. AS for what I found most interesting about his backstory is that he lost both of his parents and then he was blamed for their murder in which he had been spending time in a juvenile center which he now running away from which also brings in why I think the photographer is feeling the need to follow him. She didn't know at first that he was convicted of his parents murders when she photographed him but why I think she found him so interesting is because the two only said two words to each other.

      Delete
    5. Has your book explained why his parents were killed? Do you think the photographer wants to help him and get to know him? Why do you think he decided to escape from the juvenile center? Was there something that helped push him to escape?

  5. My character response: I think Vee is the most interesting character so far because she is Nora’s best friend and is like Nora’s moral compass because she tries to get her to do the right thing while also trying to keep her safe and happy. Vee is also pretty funny and her and Nora have had some pretty funny interactions.

My author response: The author advances the plot by adding more mystery to some characters and by making Nora want to uncover those mysteries. The author creates a major plot event because she makes Nora believe that certain people could be angels or nephilim. This makes Nora want to uncover those mysteries and she tries during that chapter but is unsuccessful.
On page 117 Nora thinks to herself during the brawl that, “I also wondered if the queasy and uncomfortably familiar feeling inside me meant he was a fallen angel. Or Nephilim”

    3. Also why was she unsuccessful during that chapter at uncovering the mysteries?

  6. Character response - I think the most interesting character so far is Andy, he was the one driving the car and probably feels the most sorrow throughout the school. Andy has taken Robs spot on the basketball team and doesn't feel right about it so he goes to see a shrink. He explains how there were people at school who couldn't even look at him, and he was receiving notes on his locker that said things like killer.
    Overall Impressions-
I originally chose this book because i felt like I could relate to it do to it taking place in a high school setting, and It has lived up to that thus far I could see myself going through all of these situations that the characters are going through being on a sports team and having a close knit group of friends myself. I am enjoying this book and look forward to reading it more.

  7. Characters Response:
The most interesting character is Frank because he has a short temper, he is small, and he is not afraid of a fight. He is the underdog and has little money but talks good game and thinks of himself highly. I think he is likable but you can’t take him seriously because he is uneasy and is on parole.
    “I used to carry a pocket knife.”pg 9
Summary Response: The young black boys Frank and Justin have little money and are very hungry going from restaurant to restaurant in search of a meal they can afford. One of them is very angry about this and is knocking over trash cans. They stop at McDonalds and they see the main characters dad (Justin) which he is embarrassed of because his dad is a lowlife and left his family. His father tries to talk to them. Justin is mean and moves past him in a manner which means he doesn’t care to be associated with his father. He now tries to find his purpose and starts to take notes on the hustles and ways of city folk.

    1. Do you think that Justin still loves his dad or do you think their their relationship is irreparable? Do you also think there is a way that Justin's father could improve their relationship?

      Delete
    2. I think it is irreparable because his dad is selfish and is a bad influence and Justin is aware of this. Justin's father could show some respect and possibly try to get back together/help with his family.

      Delete
    3. I can see why you would think Frank is the most interesting character. However, could you find some more evidence to show his short temper and his uneasiness? The evidence about the pocket knife is a good piece to show his uneasiness, but more would be ideal to solidify the points. In addition, what's a piece of evidence to show his short temper?
I don't know the character as well as you do so I haven't seen his short temper.

      Delete
    4. Frank constantly talks about his parole for stabbing someone. His temper really shows when this happens," Instead, Frank steps on the pile. Potato mush covers his shoes. He's got his jaw clenched and his fists balled up. Franks not afraid of a fight, but with his size, it's hard to take him seriously."

  8. Authors Craft:
In chapter 3 the author makes the story much more interesting because in this chapter it goes more into how the accident actually happened. Pelly the main character confesses what happened to the patrolman. “Six years ago, my best friend Tara and I were at Central Mall with her mom.” I said. This advances the plot because the book is now actually telling us something about the terrible accident.

    Overall Impressions:
Honestly after reading all of chapters 1 and 2 I thought that the story was not going to be much interesting anymore because I felt like the story wasn't going anywhere. I almost wanted to quit reading because it felt boring but then as I started reading more chapters (3, 4, 5 +) it got much more interesting. I’m glad I sticked to this story and continued reading it because as I read more it is getting much better.

  9. Characters Response:
The most interesting character is obviously The Time Traveler. He is interesting because he is so committed to proving that time travel is possible. He has an undeniable drive which makes the audience wanna see him succeed. He is likable and an underdog. You can tell this because his friends at first shrug off his claims but he is driven to prove them wrong.

    Author’s Craft Response:
Chapter 3: The author uses this chapter to advance the plot because The Time Traveler goes forward in time. Wells uses descriptive imagery to move the plot along and show the process of traveling through time. He states, “I saw trees growing and changing like puffs of vapor, now brown, now green: they grew, spread, shivered, and passed away. I saw huge buildings rise up faint and fair, and pass like dreams.”

    3. Chris, the time traveler goes through time with his time machine. He is a brilliant scientist who uses his high intellect to build the machine. Also, he can go as far forward or backward in time as he would like. So far, he has only gone through time twice. The first time it is "off screen". All of the scientist's colleagues are waiting around for him and he walks through the door and discusses where he went with them. The second time he traveled through time it is from his prospective.

    4. Is there a reason that his friends do not believe him if he has a time machine has he not showed them yet? Can he show them the time machine or is he not allowed?

  10. Authors Craft: In chapter 2 the author made this chapter into a flashback to advance the story, the flashback she uses is when D Foster first enters Neeka and her best friend’s life. In this chapter the author says ““who’s that girl over there, staring us down like that?” I said to Neeka. Neeka looked to where D was standing and shrugged. Then she stood up. “You looking for somebody?” Neeka said. It wasn’t a real unfriendly voice, just a little. “Not really.” And I guess she thought that was an invitation to cross the street, because that’s when she came over to us” (pg 24). When the author uses a flashback in the story it zooms out of the current action to explain how the three girls ended up meeting.
Overall Impression: What made me want to read this book was because I thought it was going to be about Tupac. However, it’s not exactly living up to my expectations because I thought it was going to be something completely different then what it actually is. I’m glad I picked it because even though it’s not what I expected it to be I still like it and find it interesting.

  11. Authors craft: Art gets stolen from the japanese people, everybody talks about the art being stolen, and it seems like the main character, Violett is going to do her best to find this art. The author directly led into this by dialogue between all the characters. She creates a major plot event by signifying the importance of these paintings.

Character response:The most interesting character is Violett, who is the main character. This is because the most amount of insight is being focused on her, and we know the most about her. She has some interests, such as animated cartoons and being a sleuth. They seem to be the hero, as she seems to be very interested in what happened to these paintings, and has an idea about everybody who is involved.

  13. For my first part im doing a summary of my book. In my first section of the book Bradens dad got arrested for being the prime suspect for the murder of a police officer. Since then he has not talked to him or had any contact. His social worker is thinking of putting him in a house since he has no mom, but before she can move him Bradens brother,Trey comes back after not seeing him for 5 years, but there relationship isn't the best so far and Trey seems shady.
Authors craft response - In chapter 4 When his father's lawyer finally came to talk to Braden he had a flashback and moved him back emotionally because he learned what finally happened to the cop and how his father committed the crime, with Braden as a key eye witness. Towards the end of the chapter Braden continually asks to not do this and whose idea it was to have him do it. The lawyer didn’nt say much other that his father and him trust Braden. This overall impacts Braden and his mental wellness. As he states the only time he can be clear minded is when he is on the mound.

  14. My character response: I like Ryan he is an athlete under his brother that is very innocent until he met Shay. Shay had met him in the store he was in and when he met her she was hiding in a rack of clothing trying to get away from everyone. She told Ryan her life story and Ryan was so intrigued that he didn't care for the consequence he would serve for breaking the law with her. Then they started their adventure to break out the store and get into the main hallway of the mall which was against the security lock down. He became very timid when they ran into two guards and one recognized him from his high school football team. Then he ran off back into a store so he would not get in trouble.
Summary response: The four characters were in the mall when there was a security shut down. Something happened in the parking lot shutting down the whole mall soon all for were skeptical of what was going on. Some decided to listen and follow what they were told others were looking for a way out until they met their pair and soon had two groups of teens trying to get out of this mall trying to avoid security. Eventually run into the other pair and work together to get out.

  15. The summary of my book so far is about a teenager named Maddy, who has a rare disease that makes her not be able to go outside. New neighbors moved in next door, and came over to try and meet Maddy, but her mother doesn’t allow it. Olly (the neighbor boy) starts communicating to Maddy through the window by writing note, until they eventually add each other emails and start chatting back and forth. Maddy’s caregiver finds out about Maddy’s new friend, and after some convincing, lets Olly come over to visit behind Maddy’s mom’s back. As they start talking more and able to see each other, Maddy starts to fall for Olly.
My overall thoughts on the book so are that I really like this book and it keeps my attention. I love how the book has sketches to help understand what the book is explaining and paint a better picture in my head. I also love the way Yoon planned out the plot they story line is at a good paced and isn’t dragging, she also developed the characters by the conversations and visiting they had which I really liked. At this point, Moshie is my favorite because he seems to be the most logical of everyone in his community. 18. Summary: In my book Miles Morales Spider-Man, Miles’ parents are telling him how he was when he was young. In the book right now Miles is narrating how he got the spider bite on his hand and as a result has had super powers for years. His powers have now started to act up and he gets random spider senses. Miles tells his parents that he goes and meets up with his friends at pizza shop but he actually goes there to meet up with his uncle Aaron. The author has not yet revealed the exact purpose of these secret meetings.
Author’s Craft Response: In Chapter 2 Miles is talking to his Uncle Aaron. Uncle Aaron is telling Miles how he was back in the day, doing things like robbing banks and stores. In the book it says “ The one thing Uncle Aaron never------NEVER---- talked to Miles about “business. He never told him about the the banks, or the store he had hit.” I am guessing Uncle Aaron never talked to him about stuff like that because he doesn’t want Miles to be like that.

    3. I can kinda agree with that. The beginning of the book is dragged out more than I would like, but I personally prefer the way the story goes in the book as the movies starts to split off of the books in the second and third movie.

  21. Characters Response:
Whit is the most interesting character to me even though the book tries to push his sister wisty as a more prominent character in the story. Whit is not as strong as his sister with his powers, but he is much more level headed in most situations. Yet internally he seems truly broken. He mourns the loss of his girlfriend Celia and fears for the fate of his parents. Not only that, but on page 113 Whit talks about how he wrote a 6 page poem about the death of his sister. This could be talking about how he was scared from the fake execution at the beginning of the book or possibly foreshadowing a future event that Whit predicts will happen. Either way it shows that there is a internal battle in Whit that I find makes him more interesting.

    Author’s Craft Response:
Patterson writes the book in the perspective of both siblings which allows there to be multiple viewpoints of singular events. We see this at the start with Whits perspective of Wisty’s fake execution where he thinks, “There’s a flash not of light but somehow of blackness and she’s gone Wisty My sister My best friend in the world My little sister is dead” (Patterson 23). Yet Wisty’s perspective of this event is, “I recognized her even with a hood over her head Her purple sneakers and black-and-purple cargo pants were the giveaway The silver streaks and stars on the sneakers were the final clue Margo the last punk rocker on Earth Margo the most fearless and dedicated person I’ve ever known Margo my dear friend” (Patterson 26).

    1. Do you think that the poem foreshadows a future event or the fake execution in the beginning?

      Delete
    2. Personally I believe that the poem represents a future event. It could be both, but the story leaves the line as a cliffhanger at the end of a chapter which makes me believe it is something deeper than just a past trauma.

      Delete
    3. Do you like the book having two different perspectives at the same time? Is your book confusing to read at times with two perspectives?

      Delete
    4. Do you think if the book was not written with both perspectives it would be less interesting to read?

      Delete
    5. I love how it gives the multiple retrospectives. It shows how different the two siblings are and the different internal struggles they have. And no it honestly is not confusing. Patterson puts the name of who's prospective it is in at the beginning of each chapter.

      Delete
    6. Does Whit's levelheadedness and Wisty's power compliment each other or does this cause a conflict between them?

      Delete
    7. If it was only written in one prospective I would not find it as interesting. Both siblings have found out they have "magical powers" and both have to learn what that really means and how to control it. As well there are many points in the story where two things are happening at once where one sibling is involved in each one. If we only got one prospective there would be much of the story missing.

      Delete
    8. The differences between Whit and Wisty causes allot of conflict in the story. Whit does not agree with many of the reckless decisions Wisty makes. Wisty rely's on her powers too much and where as Whit uses his mind to compensate for his lack of strength in his powers.

  22. Author’s Craft Response: Chapter 2
The children are realizing that there are no more adults left and are crying and such.
The author designed this chapter to advance the plot of the story by making us realize that all the adults are gone as well and will also see who is strong and who is not.
The author doesn't use a flashback or create a major plot but he gives details on what happened after the Major plot took place. “First we see about our parents,” Astrid said. “It's not like there aren't any adults anywhere.” “Kids poured out of the school, alone or in small groups. Some of the girls walked in threes, hugging each other, tears streaming down their faces.” this is after the major plot happened in chapter 1
    Overall Impressions Response:
The thing that made me want to read this book is wondering what life would be like without parents and without phones and internet and see how the kids in this book would survive and thrive.

I really like this book and yes it is living up to my expectations because I like to think of the “what ifs” like what if this didn't happen or this did happen. I think it is interesting to think of what life would actually be like without adults. So far I am glad I chose this book because it is a really interesting book. Those are my two that I am choosing 👿👊💪🔥💯

  23. Characters Response: I think the most interesting character so far is Dexter. I can really sympathize with him even though he is a murderer, I feel like it's not that bad because he only murders other murderers so I feel like that isnt that bad of a thing to do. Dexter explains how he's dead inside and doesn't really feel anything but he fakes it and tries to be a very charming and likable person. And even though he fakes it he's still a very likable person that also happens to murder people in his free time.

Overall Impressions Response: I wanted to read this book because I watched the TV series and really liked it so I decided to read the book to see how they compare. So far it's going good and living up to my expectations but most of the mystery is gone for me though because I know what happens already from watching the show, since the first season of the show is based entirely off the the first book.

  24. Summary Response: Illness broke out causing lots of people to die. After it was a decent size issue, these kids decided to go on a cruise. After the cruise crashed, these kids had no choice but to take a lifeboat and sail the ocean. Upon arriving somewhere in the U.S. they haven’t realized how bad the illness got. Country turned into anarchy and gangs are controlling the territories. These kids have the vaccine for the disease which people didn’t know existed, and so they are now on a mission to deliver the vaccines to scientist in Arizona so they can save the lives of millions.

Overall Impressions Response: I think this book gives a good impression, and I’m intrigued to read more due to the situation these young adults are in. I can picture something like this happening and so to visualize this scenario wouldn’t be hard. I’d give it a 7/10.

There people live in a place where the government is called the society and they decide who you get matched with, when you die, where you work etc. The main character, Cassia, is at her match ceremony where the society matches her with someone they think is compatible with and they get to decide if they want to spend the rest of their lives together. Cassia gets matched with her best friend, Xander, which she thinks is great, but when she gets the card with all of his information on it another face shows up instead of Xander. She recognizes this face as another person that lives in their neighborhood, Ky.

    Author’s Craft Response:
In the chapter when Cassia sees Ky’s face on the screen and then Xanders it made me wonder if the society messed up when they were choosing who Cassia got matched with. It made the plot thicken and keep moving forward because so far in the book Cassia was saying that the society never messes up, so it made me wonder what happened and what went wrong.

  26. The two responses that I believe were my favorites are: the Characters response, and Overall Impressions response.
Characters response: "-The character that I thought was the most interesting is a minor character near the end of chapter 1.
    - This character, who was a girl that always wore black clothes, I felt is a bit of foreshadowing, due to a response said to the author about dating boys at a very young age, which could lead to the main events that inspired the book, “What’s the matter with you?” she said sarcastically. “We’re not too young. Everybody’s doing it. That’s the way it is” (Tarbox, 13)."
Overall Impressions response: "-What made me want to read this book is due to the increase of sexual crime happening today, and wanting to know more of what can trigger a victim to be tricked into dangerous acts such as online chatting with a stranger.
-I feel that the book is starting to live up to the expectations I have, due to the author beginning with the usual motives a victim of sex crime has whenever being online, and talking with a stranger, and how far their actions would go after meeting the stranger."

  27. Characters Response:
The most interesting character right now is Claudia. I believe this because she’s the rebel in the book. She goes to parties, drinks, and even does drugs. So because of this you never know what she's going to be up to or who shes going to be dragging with her into trouble. Overall I don't really like her character because I feel like she is very selfish and all about herself. If she is willing to have her younger sister go to jail for something SHE did and not consider her life, then I think she is a very annoying character. I think she should take responsibility for her actions and go to jail herself not her sister.
    Summary Response:
Claudia drags Sadie to go to a party with her, which claudia gets super drunk and high. Sadie drinks a bit too. They get caught in a drug deal as they took 2 boys to the gas station after the party. Since Claudia already has a past she asks her sister to take the fault for her. At this time Sadie is totally against it and is mad at Claudia for even asking.

  28. The 2 ones i'm going to choose are Character response and authors craft. The characters response I chose because it is very interesting to look at the different characters. The most interesting character is a titan called bob because he was evil and now he is good and is helping Percy and Annabeth through Tartarus. The 2nd one is the author's craft because the way the author writes in a very interesting way. The author separates the books into different P.O.V so that you can look at the difference between them but I would advise against it because it doesn't make sense if you read that way so I say if you want to read the book pick certain P.O.V to concentrate on and then go back and read the other P.O.Vs.

  30. Summary response: August explains to the reader in a first person view about what has happened in his 10 years of life. He has had over 10 surgeries in his face. He explains why he has always been homeschooled and now he is going to finally be going into the 6th grade and will be going to an actual school with other kids. He is very nervous and does not know how he will do with other kids staring at him. He has a father, a mother and an older sister. He explains his difficulties about his face and how he lives with those difficulties and how he interacts with people or how some people look at him weirdly.

Author’s Craft Response: This author designed the chapter to advance the plot of the story by explaining the protagonist’s past. Us as readers needed to learn about his past to know more background about him so that we would understand why his face is different and why he gets bullied because of it. He does use flashbacks and reminds us of major plot events such as when he used to be younger and had very close friends but then they moved away and only had one close friend left. “Mom remembers exactly what the nurse whispered in her ear when the doctor told her I probably Wouldn’t live through the night:”Everyone born of God overcometh the world.” And the next day, after I had lived through the night, it was that nurse who held Mom’s hand when they brought her to meet me for the first time. Mom says by then they had told her all about me. She had been preparing herself for the seeing of me. But she says that when she looked down into my tiny mushed-up face for the first time, all she could see was how pretty my eyes were. Mom is beautiful, by the way. And Dad is handsome. Via is pretty. In case you were wondering. “ (p.32)

  31. Character’s response: I found Lark to be the most interesting character in the book so far because of her personality and characteristics. She is a strong person who is able to ignore the others around her that make fun of her and call her crazy. Even though she did try to kill herself over this matter, after she returned she became more strong-willed and disinterested in what other had thought of her and how they react around. She keeps a badass persona around others to keep others from getting to her but also opens up to the people she can trust.
    Author’s Craft Response:
In one of the chapters in the book, the author uses a major plot event to advance the plot in the story. This is possible by having a boy confront Lark and start bullying her, her sister, and her family. Lark comes up with a come-back but once given the opportunity the bully starts to beat on her again and this time Lark’s ghost sister, Wren, becomes so enraged that she enters Lark’s body and starts to attack the bully without any regard for how that would affect her sister; “‘Why are you here?” A blond guy with a big zit on his chin asked. From his voice I knew he was the same one who made the “dyke” remark. His name was Aaron or Albert or something. I remembered him from last year. “Shouldn’t you be locked up with the rest of the retards?”, “How did she die anyway?” Andrew asked with a mocking grin. “I bet your mother saw that there was two of you and lost her shit. Did she know that she killed the wrong one? It should have been you she killed.”, “Wren settled in, her spirit fitting me perfectly, like a glove tailor-made for a hand. She smiled, using my lips.”
Another author’s craft that is used is when there are different chapters they will either be portrayed in Lark’s point of view or Wren’s.

So they are at the party and there’s a waiter carrying a bunch of wine glasses to people and Chip pushed Tyler into the waiters and all the glasses went flying and one landed on Bethany’s bare foot and now she’s in a cast and has crutches.

  36. In my book the main thing that is a conflicted right know is that the people called the New Order think that teens are infected and are witches, and they capture them and lock them into cells. Witsy is the main character in this story she and her brother where focused on in this book.
The author designed chapter 21 of the book Witch and Wizard because Witsy thinks she is psychotic and says this would explain the fire that I saw. She uses flashback to come up with a reason to think why she is crazy and she is seeing things because she cannot face the fact that she is a witch. “That's it! I thought with a breath of hope. 37. Summary Response: The main event that happened in my book so far was the main point of the book. Two friends were jogging through the city and found the body of 17-year-old Christopher Charles Goodman. Dr. Max Butterworth said the boy apparently died from a gunshot wound to the head. The author tells you this very early in the book (page 5) and then the rest of the book is all of the events that led up to the killing of Christopher Goodman. Personally, I think this is a cool way to tell a story because I’m hooked to it right away and want to know how and why he died.

Author’s Craft Response: The author kind of smacks you in the face right away by telling you how Christopher Goodman died. On page 5 it says, “Dr. Max Butterworth said the boy apparently died from a gunshot wound to the head.” The word ‘apparently’ made me think. Then you spend the rest of the book trying to figure out why he died and if the author told you the truth about how he died.

  39. Nick and his mother had just escaped a zombie attack due to the help of the help of a wealthy man named Kyrain. Kyrian actually helped Nicks unemployed mother by getting her a job down at bar that his friends own. But it’s not a normal bar, its filled with unholy creatures such as vampires, chimeras and even Death himself all disguised as people. Only Nick and a selective other few can see them because they somehow have this astral godlike power, although Nick is just now starting to discover that. When I picked this book up I immediately read the back and inside cover as I do with all books, and the backside was dialogue of Nick and Death with Death practically threatening Nick when he tries to get away from him, “‘Don’t play coy, Cajun. We don’t like that’”. That and a few other lines got me thinking on what kind of situation he’d be in for Death himself to say, like a dungeon, the underworld...nope, a kitchen. Definitely not up to my expectation. I thought it would be a lot more intense but so far it’s been very dull.

Katniss is one of the most interesting characters to me, because she was brave enough to sacrifice herself for her younger sister. She has the highest chance out of the two for winning because of her expertise in hunting, gathering, and fighting.

    Author’s Craft Response:
She used the chapter to introduce the reaping and the hunger games which also helped to establish Katniss’s character by her tributing herself in replace of prim being sent off, it truly shows she'll do anything to protect her. "Prim!" The strangled cry comes out of my throat, and my muscles begin to move again. "Prim!" I don't need to shove through the crowd. The other kids make way immediately allowing me a straight path to the stage. I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me.

  42. Characters response: The most interesting character in the story is Jake because he is really smart but he is insane. Physically his is inferior to other people but he has an IQ of 180 so he is way smarter than everyone in the story. I find him so interesting because his is a strategist and what he can't do physically he makes up in mentally with the mental games he plays with people. He is going to do something bad later because he is getting more and more obsessed with revenge and getting back with all the people that did him wrong.

Summary response: A really smart kid named Jake is a social outcast. His father beats him because he won't stand up for himself. Jake finds an alien in a forest that talks to him telepathically. Jake brings him home and finds out the alien is really smart. Jake’s father is really mad at him and whips him until he blacks out. 3. That's right. He probably ended up with a better job anyways, ha ha.

  44. Summary Response: In the book, Number Four is an alien from the planet Lorien. Him and 8 other children were sent to Earth in escape from invading aliens called Mogadorians. All 9 children have special powers. These Mogadorians are chasing them and can only kill them in a specific order due to a Loric charm. All of these kids, called “Legacies” have protectors with no special powers. He finds out in the start of the book that he’s next to be killed so him and his “protector” Henri move to Ohio from Florida.
    Author’s Craft Response:
prologue is especially interesting because of the fact that he made it feel as if it was chapter one but gave an idea of how evil this invading race is. ““The Legacies live. They will find each other, and
when they’re ready, they’re going to destroy you.”
The Mogadarian laughs, a nasty, mocking laugh. It
raises the sword, the only weapon in the universe that
can break the charm that until today protected the boy,
and still protects the others. The blade ignites in a silver fl ame as it points to the sky, as if it’s coming alive,
sensing its mission and grimacing in anticipation. And
as it falls, an arc of light speeding through the blackness of the jungle, the boy still believes that some part
of him will survive, and some part of him will make it
home. He closes his eyes just before the sword strikes. “

  45. Summary Response: What is going on right now happened at the end of the chapter I just read. Tandy just saw her murdered parents bodies on the bed and doesnt know exactly how to react. She said she's not the average girl that would cry or be in shock, she just is in a weird situation and doesn't know how to acknowledge the fact of her parents death.

    Author’s Craft Response:

The author designed this plot to cause a chilly feeling of the fact of the killer being in the room at the time, and to make me wait to discover is a lot more chapters ahead probably, to make me read more to figure out, and the only flashback used so far was to describe the kind of parents she had and the relationship they both had with the family and each other. Page 10 “We did love them, but it wasn't a simple love. To start with, my parents were complicated: Strict, generous, punishing, expansive, withholding. And as a result we were complicated too.”

    4. Nope, I really don't think she has seen a ghost once in this book unless lowkey the killer was her.

  46. Summary response:

When the book starts, three men, Will, Waymar, and Gared, of the night watch search for a group of “wildings”. Wildings are people who are ‘uncivilized’ and live past this great, giant wall. After awhile, Will found that the wildlings were found dead, apparently from freezing. Something didn’t add up though-it was not cold enough to kill people, so the three went back to investigate only to find the bodies gone. A bunch of what I call ‘frozen zombies’ or what the book calls as others attacks the group, which ended up with Waymar, and Will dead.

    Author’s Craft Response:

Martin uses the prologue to introduce a main antagonist of the book- a ‘mythical creature’ that nobody else believes in unless they see it. Another thing that is apparent is that winter is something to be dreaded. Martin uses a flashback to show the dangerousness of the winters, “It was the cold,” Gared said with iron certainty. “I saw men freeze last winter, and the one before, when I was half a boy. Everyone talks about snows forty foot deep, and how the ice wind comes howling out of the north, but the real enemy is the cold. It steals up on you quieter than Will, and at first you shiver and your teeth chatter and you stamp your feet and dream of mulled wine and nice hot fires. It burns, it does. Nothing burns like the cold. But only for a while. Then it gets inside you and starts to fill you up, and after a while you don’t have the strength to fight it. It’s easier just to sit down or go to sleep. They say you don’t feel any pain toward the end. First you go weak and drowsy, and everything starts to fade, and then it’s like sinking into a sea of warm milk. Peaceful, like.”

    1. What is the mythical creature or has it not been identified

    2. Well, they are called 'others' but what I think they are is some time of zombie. I forgot to explain that after Waymar was killed by the others he became reanimated and then fought Will, which is why I think they are zombies.

    3. I like how the author uses a lot of detail to describe the visualization and understanding of what's happening in the book, it brings a lot of anticipation and excitement to the book.

  47. Summary Response:
In my book so far what has happened is that the two main characters are in arranged marriage and are sealing the deal soon, but the main male character is secretly homosexual and the only person that knows is his best friend (the girl he is marrying). He has a secret lover that is male, and at the wedding rehearsal he meets with his lover and is murdered and a week later is brought back to life, with the help of the company he works for. The whole plot is very futuristic and he is the heir of the chairman of this huge company that his dad owns called Paxco.

    Overall Impression Response:
I chose this book because I have read it before but I don’t remember everything that happens so plots in the book are still a surprise sometimes. I know why I wanted to read it again, it was because I remember how highly I was attracted to reading this book and how I’d like to just keep reading it like a never ending story. This book has lived up to the expectations I have I wish all books were this good to me, and I am sure glad that I have picked this book.

  49. Characters Response: I would say the most interesting character is Ariana because she’s the main character of the book and you get to know more about her in the beginning of the book once you start reading. She’s the type of girl that has a lot of popular friends and is always doing in good in school which is what teachers love. She’s the character that you can easily understand and maybe connect to in a certain situation which is what makes her the most interesting character.

Summary Response: In the first chapter it talks about the background story of Ariana Osgood, who is the main character of the book. She’s lucky to be living a good life she’s in right now where she’s worked hard for years, had a prestigious school, the popular friends that she was meant to have and the gorgeous boyfriend who she loves dearly. Everything starts off good until a plot twist comes up in the book where one her friends, Kiran Hayes disappears and there was still no such news.

  50. Author’s Craft Response:
    Chapter 1.
The author is using major events to further expand the characters feelings. It started right away at a black rally to stand for M.L.K. Jr.’s beliefs while white people protested. Sam’s Brother Stick went to the white protesters and got hit with a glass bottle over the head really hard and ended up in the hospital. His father, who was the main leader of the rally had to leave and save his son. Afterwards they all went home and Stick and the father got into a huge fight about how he should have used non violence just like he preaches. That’s where the chapter ends.
    “Father I-”
“No.” ‘Father turned from the window.’ “When I went to work with Martin, I took an oath of nonviolence. I’ve upheld it to this day, and I expect you to do the same. No excuses. Is that understood?”
Summary Response: So far A kid named Sam who is 13 is watching his father who is a follower and friend of Martin Luther King Jr. stand alongside him and fight with his cause of nonviolence, while his older brother who is 17 is trying to become a black panther. So Sam is troubled and doesn’t know what to do and he hopes that everything will be okay.
